PRODUCTS FOR FISHING ROD MFGS.
THREAD WRAP COATINGS

EPOXY COATINGS CO. introduced to the industry
the first one coat finish for wrapping threads
that secure the guides to the rods. Prior to the
introduction of our coatings to the fishing rod
manufacturers, they were using 6 to 8 coats of
varnish type coatings to hold these threads and
secure the guides. This one coat material makes
the threads look like they are encased in plastic.
This rapidly became the standard of quality for
the industry.

'1' COAT ROD FINISH -
THE ORIGINAL ONE COAT FINISH

‘1’ Coat Rod Finish is a Two-Component
Polymer Coating which was developed by Epoxy Coatings
Co. to replace the many coats of varnish type
coatings that were being used on the wrapping
threads at that time. It rapidly set the standard
of quality for the industry. It is mixed in equal
volume just prior to use and this special formulation
was designed for rapid production.
Many similar type coatings
soon appeared on the market, but ‘1’ Coat Rod
Finish offers many advantages over the attempts
to copy.
After application only 45
minutes to 1 hour of slow rotation, without heat,
is required for initial set. Then the rod can
be set aside for only 3 to 4 hours before packing
for shipment. This is at least 1/2 the time required
for similar products.
REMEMBER:
- Formulation contains
Flow Agents and Bubble Breaker.
- No Flaming or other laborious
procedures required to break bubbles.
- One Coat gives a High
Build.
- Designed for Rapid Production
- Rotate the rod for only
45 minutes to 1 hour after application.
- Ready to ship in 3 to
4 hours after application without heating.
- Formulated for Flexibility,
Durability and Clearness.
We would be pleased to send
a sample for evaluation.

TWO COAT NON-YELLOWING
THREAD COATING

FORMULA TWC-5791A AND TWC-249B is mixed in equal
volumes to give a modified Polyurethane Coating.
Two thin coatings gives a high build equivalent
to 1 Coat of '1' Coat Rod Finish. No turning is
required after application.
The two components, A & B, are mixed in equal
volume prior to use.
A thin coating of the mixture is applied to a
turning rod.
After finishing the first coat, the rod is placed
in a horizontal rack. The horizontal rack will
prevent any tendency to sag. The rod will be ready
for the second coat in 45 minutes to 1 hour.
The second coat is applied and the rod is placed
on the rack.
The second coat will dry to touch in approximately
60 to 75 minutes, depending on room temperature
and humidity. The rods can now be packed and shipped.
The coating will obtain final hardness in 3 to
4 days.
Two thin coats gives a coating similar to one
coat of '1' Coat Rod Finish.
Since this is a non-yellowing product in sunlight,
it is recommended for white or light colored rods.
TWC-5791A/249B HAS MANY ADVANTAGES
OVER OTHER FINISHING SYSTEMS
1. Coating is formulated for rapid application
for high production rate.
2. No turning of Rod after application.
3. No heat required for rapid cure.
4. No flaming or other devices to break bubbles.
5. Tough and Flexible. Will remain Flexible.
6. NON YELLOW AND NON-CRACKING
7. Excellent for use on White Rods.
OTHER USES FOR TWC-5791A/249B
One coat of TWC-5791A/249B is used to seal and
protect Decals or Logos.

UV CURABLE THREAD COATINGS

In 1984 EPOXY COATING CO. introduced Ultra Violet
Curable Coatings to the fishing industry. This
coating was formulated for application to the
thread wrap to give a High Build in just one coat.
It is a one component product that cures under
an Ultra Violet light source in 5 seconds or less.
Three formulas are now available for use at different
plant conditions.
FORMULA UV-835 is the ORIGINAL and the other
two are identical except for increased viscosity.
FORMULA UV-839 was designed for use in summer
months or when the ambient temperature is so high
that it reduces the viscosity of the UV-835 sufficiently
to make it difficult to obtain a high build in
one coat.
Then some customers that were using UV-839 in
extremely high temperatures asked that the viscosity
be increased. The result was UV-1035.

THREAD SEALER
Higher quality rods are produced when the thread
is first sealed with SC-115. It acts as a sealer
and a color preserver for the thread. It helps
eliminate entrapped air. This sealer is a Water
Based, Single Component product which is designed
for rapid production. It contains no solvent and
is odorless. It air dries in approximately 1 hour
at room temperature and the final finish can be
applied.

FISHING ROD BLANK COATINGS

At the same time that we introduced the one coat
thread coating we began the manufacture of 2 part
Epoxy Coatings for the rod blanks. They were applied
in only one coat to give a high quality coating
that produced what we called an Anti-Marr Surface,
which was very scratch resistant. These coatings
are now available in Opaque and Transparent colors,
which we customize in colors to match current
production requirements or future production.
These coatings are also available in a Semi-Matte
or Flat Finish.
In 1998 we introduced a clear Ultra Violet coating
that cures in 5 seconds or less and in 2001 opaque
and transparent colors became available. We also
match colors in these formulations.

FLAT FILL PRIMER
This is an invisible filler for porous graphite
blanks. It is applied by squeegee like the finish
coatings.

SQUEEGEE RUBBER
Our Squeegee Rubber is a high-quality gum rubber
for application of coatings to graphite and fiberglass
rods, such as fishing poles and golf shafts. Our
Squeegee Rubber is used by all of the major fishing
rod mfgs. in the U.S. and abroad. Some leading
golf shaft mfgs. are now using our Squeegee Rubber
to produce their high-quality finishes. It is
supplied in 12"x12" sheets. Call for
